Bula means hello in Fiji. And if you’ve never been to Fiji, let me tell you, every time a Fijian says Bula to you, it makes you feel so welcome and happy. Fijian people are by far the nicest people I have ever met, of any place I’ve ever traveled. The men and women working at the resort I stayed at on Denarau Island in Fiji barely make minimum wage in a week, and yet they could not be happier to be where they are. Whether it is teaching you how to dance with fire, walking over burning hot coals to demonstrate tradition, or concocting the ancient Fijian drink Kava for you to try (which is nasty by the way), the men and women of Fiji made my vacation there. Also, the crystal clear blue waters and perfect sunny weather every day doesn’t hurt.
